This is a character guide for the Super Famicom game Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu. Please note that because the game has never been officially released in English-language territories, the names as presented here are the product of fan translation. The alternate name spellings in parentheses are taken from the book Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu: TREASURE. Furthermore, it is possible that should Nintendo of America elect to localize Seisen no Keifu for the North American market, many of the names could be altered further or changed entirely. The same also holds true for the equally large markets in Europe and other PAL territories.

For general information about the game itself, see the main article.

Lords

Sigurd

Sigurd (シグルド Shigurudo?) is the son of Lord Byron (Vylon) and a descendant of Baldo, one of the twelve Jugdral Crusaders. He eventually inherits the Tyrfing, Baldo's sword, from his father. Ethlin is his younger sister, and her marriage to Cuan of Lenster makes him his brother-in-law as well as his best friend. Sigurd is the prince of Chalphy Castle of the Kingdom of Grandbell. He leads an invasion of Verdane when Adean is kidnapped from Jungby Castle, during which he meets his wife, Diadora, and instantly falls in love with her. He then leads an invasion and occupation of Agustria after his friend Eltosian is imprisoned there. During the occupation his son Celice is born. Sigurd is accused of treason against Grandbell and is forced to take refuge in Silesia. He returns to Grandbell later, eliminating the lords that put the blames on him, only to be killed in Alvis' plan. His son Celice takes over in Chapter 6 of the game, finishing what he started.

According to the end of Chapter 6, Sigurd was well loved by many people of Jugdral continent. Oifaye calls him a "kindhearted man" when he rescues Shanan at Genoa Castle in Chapter 1. King Mananan of Isaac often looked to Sigurd's father Byron for advice. When Sigurd was younger and training to be a knight, he met Cuan of Lenster and Eltosian of Nodion of whom he quickly befriended. One night, they made a pact to each other, saying that they would always assist each others' dukedoms in times of desperate need.

His name is based on one way to translate the name Siegfried, the legendary hero in Norse mythology who slayed a dragon. However, the reference is not completely accurate since the mythological Siegfried's sword is the Balmung, which is not the sword for Baldo blood inheritors in game, but for the Odo blood inheritors.

Celice

Celice (セリス Serisu?) was chronologically born in Agustria (of Grandbellian heritage) between Chapter 2 and 3 in the game. During his infancy, his mother Diadora was captured by Manfloy, leaving him without a mother. Eventually, as Sigurd approached Barhara, Celice was sent into Isaac under the protection of Oifaye and Shanan. He was also raised by Adean, who acted a surrogate mother.

Celice was taught how to fight by Shanan, and grew up with several other children, including Delmud, Lester, Lana, Skasaha and Lakche. As son of Diadora, Celice has two half-siblings: Julius and Julia. He doesn't know at first, but at a certain point of the game Levin tells him. In Isaac, the citizens proclaim Celice the Prince of Light while calling the Prince of the Empire, Julius, the Prince of Darkness.

Playable characters from Sigurd's Tale

Noish

Noish (ノイッシュ Noisshu?) is a member of the Chalphy squad, serving under Sigurd.

Alec (アレク Areku?) is Noish's assistant and best friend. He is somewhat of a womanizer. He is predestined for Sylvia and Briggid.

Arden (アーダン Ādan?) is a heavily armored unit from Chalphy, Grandbell, who is restricted to swords until promotion. He is predestined for Ayra, Fury, and Brigid.

Azel

Worried about the cleric Aideen, he drags his friend Lex into joining Sigurd's army. He is predestined for Aideen and the thunder mage Tiltyu, his childhood friend.

Lex

Lex (レックス Rekkusu?) is a descendant of Axe Crusader Neir. He is from Dozel dukedom. He is the son of the avaricious Langobalt and younger brother of Danan. He hates his family, and his father Langobalt hates Sigurd's father Byron (Vylon). Langobalt assassinated Prince Kult on the way back from Grandbell's war with the Kingdom of Isaac (also known as the Isaacian-Grandbellian war). Lex is the first Fire Emblem character to be mounted on a horse and wield an axe, and the second one is his nephew Johan. His promoted form, Great Knight class, has been carried over to the Game Boy Advance game Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, as an alternate promoted form for the Knight and Cavalier classes. He has a special skills called Machibuse (Ambush) and Elite. Lex is also Holyn's rival for the heart of a swordfighter named Ayra, the Princess of Isaac. His brother Danan is the dictator of Isaac. Danan's regime was derived from the Isaacian-Grandbellian conflict, masterminded by Manfloy. According to Sigurd's son Celice, the Isaacian people largely suffered under Danan's regime. Lex's nephews, and Danan's sons, are Johan and Johalva.

Cuan

Cuan (キュアン Kyuan?) is the arrogant Prince of Lenster and descendant of Noba. He is Ethlin's husband and Sigurd's brother-in-law. Sigurd and Eltshan met him when they got trained together at the Royal Academy of Barhara. His name is a reference to the Irish mythological character Cúchulainn and to the Irish mythological character Cian. His father King Lenster had a tie to Ayra's father King Mananan. He gets the legendary lance Gae bolg (Gayborg) in Chapter 3, but gets to use it only briefly, thus leaving Sigurd at the beginning of Chapter 4. However, he passes the Gae bolg to his daughter Altenna, who gets to use it much longer. He is killed in an ambush by Trabant while crossing the Yied Desert in attempt to reinforce Sigurd in Barhara.

Ethlin

Ethlin (エスリン Esurin?) is Sigurd's sister and Cuan's wife, originally a noblewoman of Chalphy, Grandbell. She succeeded upon the death of her mother. Her sister-in-law Diadora gives her the Light Sword, which she can pass onto her son Leaf. She is introduced with Cuan and Fin in the Prologue. She is a reference to the Irish mythological character Ethniu. She is killed alongside Cuan while protecting Altenna during Trabant's ambush.

Fin

Fin (フィン Fin?)A Lenster Knight and Cuan's apprentice. Cuan guides Fin through the first half of the game. Fin has the skills Pursuit and Prayer. He raises Cuan's son Leaf and Lachesis's daughter Nanna between Sigurd's tale and Celice's tale. He is also the only character who fights in both Sigurd's tale and Celice's tale. He is a mythological reference to the Irish mythological character Fionn mac Cumhail.

In Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, a side story to Seisen no Keifu, it is implied that Fin is Nanna's father.

Midale (Midayle)

Midale (ミデェール Midīru?) is the strongest Jungby Knight. He is wounded at the beginning. He joins Sigurd after Sigurd retakes Jungby, being determined to rescue his beloved Aideen. He is predestined with either Aideen or Briggid.

Eddin (Adean)

Aideen (エーディン Ēdin?) is a noblewoman of Jungby, Grandbell, daughter of Lord Ring, and descendant of Ulir. She has more predestined lovers than any other female character in Sigurd's tale. They are Midale, Azel, Dew, and Jamuka. She's a gentle, sweet, but still strong-willed young woman who was supposed to become a warrior, but preferred to become a cleric instead since she knew she wouldn't be able to kill people, preferring to aid her friends instead. At the very beginning, she is abducted by Gandolf and sent to Marpha, Verdane. Like the original Rena character, she appears with Dew after Jamuka releases both of them from captivity. She bears Rana (Lana) and Lester. She not only survived the Battle of Barhara, she was also alive at the time of the game's ending, living in Tilnagogue Castle, Isaac, though she retires from the battlefield. She acted as a surrogate mother and also raised Celice and others.

Dew

Dew (デュー Dyū?) is the thief who helped Edin escape from the clutches of Prince Gandolf of Verdane. Originally, he was just a young thief caught by Jamuka as he tried to steal the treasures of the castle, but Jamuka forgives his life and in exchange charges him with becoming Edin's escort. As a homage to Marth's games, he is predestined for Aideen and Lachesis.

Ayra (Aira, Ira)

Ayra (アイラ Aira?) is the first recruitable character to promote to Swordmaster in Fire Emblem history (originally Nabarl was a Mercenary who promoted to Hero); she is also the first recruitable enemy in the game. She is the first character to appear in the default demo sequence of the game, alongside her beloved nephew Shanan. She is introduced at the beginning of Chapter 1, shortly after Eltosian is through meeting with Sigurd. She bears Lakche and Skasaher if paired. She is a descendant of Odo, one of the 12 Jugdral Crusaders, and the daughter of King Mananan, who was assassinated by Duke Reptor of Freege. Ayra was born and raised in the eponymous capital of Isaac, a kingdom in the northeastern corner of the continent of Judgral, separated from its neighbors by desert. At the onset of Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu her older brother Mariccle was king of Isaac. Mariccle was prepared for death when his sister Ayra went into exile with his son Shanan to the Kingdom of Verdane to escape the Isaacian-Grandbellian War and to preserve the main branch of the Odo bloodline in the occasion of his death. Upon arrival to Verdane, she and Shanan were taken hostage; being a swordwoman, Ayra had no choice but to work as a mercenary for Genoa castle to protect Shanan. She was presumed dead during the game's ending, but it is unconfirmed whether she died in truth by the game's ending. She is predestined with Arden, Holyn, or Lex.

Jamuka (Jamka)

Jamuka (ジャムカ Jamuka?) is the Prince of Verdane and the younger brother of Gandolf and Kinbois. Alternatively according to some sources such as the Treasure, Jamuka is the son of a deceased younger brother to them. Unlike his brothers, he's kind-hearted and fair; he shows compassion towards Edin (whom he has some feelings for) when they meet and lets her escape alongside Dew. He is the only member of Sigurd's army who is of royal heritage but not holy crusader descent.

Diadora (Dierdre)

Diadora (ディアドラ Diadora?) is the wife of Sigurd and descendant of Heim through her father Prince Kult and of Loputousu through Cigyun, and also the half-sister of Alvis. She was a villager living in a small village in the Spirit Forest in chapter 1,when Sigurd met her in the forest, she was not allowed to associate or contact with men, but fell in love with him, and were wed in Agustria. Manfloy captures and brainwashes her in Chapter 3, and leaves her for Alvis to find; after Sigurd's death, she marries Alvis and bears his children, the twins Julius and Julia.

Lachesis (Rackesis)

Lachesis (ラケシス Rakeshisu?) is the Princess of Nodion and younger sister to Eltosian. She is sharp-tongued, tomboyish, strong-willed and has a strong sense of pride. She is choosy about having a suitor. She bears Nanna and Delmud.

Beowulf (Beowolf)

Beowulf (ベオウルフ Beourufu?) is purported to be a mercenary from Conote, with a certain distaste to its governor. He knows Eltosian. He is the father of Felgus of Fire Emblem Thracia 776.

Holyn

Holyn (ホリン Horin?) is the son of the lord of Sophara Castle, Isaac. He is a descendant of Odo and as such distantly related to Ayra, and essentially her male counterpart and bodyguard. He joins Sigurd after he has been beaten in the arena in Chapter 2. He is a prince of the neighboring kingdom of Isaac, having a crush on Ayra at first sight. He is predestined with her.

Levin (Levn)

Levin (レヴィン Revin?) is the Prince of Silesia and the son of Queen Rahna and the late king of Silesia. He is a direct descendant of Sety, the founder of Silesia. Before the game began, he ran away and went missing from home. During his travels, he met Sylvia, a dancer. He serves as Celice's advisor in Celice's tale. He is similar to Maric from Marth's games. In Chapter 4, he goes back to Silesia castle, and his mother Rahna gives him the legendary tome Holsety. He is really protective to Julia in the second half of the game. After the battle of Barhara, Levin is killed by Manfloy (shown in the opening, after the game is finished several times), but Holsety resurrected him, at cost of several parts of his memories, which would explain his behavior in the second part of the game.

Sylvia

Sylvia (シルヴィア Shiruvia?) is purported to be a noblewoman of Edda, Grandbell. She is a descendant of Blagi. She was orphaned as a child and raised by a heartless man, but she left him for good by the time the events of Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu began. When a rumor of Prince Levin was missing, she met Levin during his travels, and traveled together. She then had affection for him and fell in love with Levin. She bears Lynn (Leen) and Corpul.

Fury (Ferry)

Fury (フュリー Fyurī?) is a pegasus knight of Silesia. Her sister, Mahnya, is the captain of the army there. She comes across Sigurd while searching for the wayward Prince Levin. She is the only playable female character in Sigurd's tale who is not of royal heritage, noble birth, or holy crusader descent. She bears Phee and Sety. After the battle of Barhara, Fury ends up becoming the queen of Silesia after Rahna died naturally. She awaits her husband but died due to sickness, with her children looking for their father. Thracia 776 reveals that Fury's canonical husband is Levin.

Claude (Claud)

Claude (クロード Kurōdo?) is a direct descendant of Blagi. He prays at the Blagi Tower. He shows up with Tiltyu in Chapter 3. He is predestined with Tiltyu, Sylvia or Aideen. He is shown to be clairvoyant. If paired with Aideen, in the beginning of the Battle of Barhara, he warns Aideen of a disaster that will wipe out Sigurd's army. This comes true as Alvis decimated Sigurd's army and Aideen ends up surviving.

Tiltyu (Tailto)

Tiltyu (ティルテュ Tirutyu?) is born from the main house of Freege, one of the Dukedoms of Grandbell. Her father is Leptor, who held a high position in the Empire (but felt it undermined, due to him being power hungry). The house of Freege descended from the Crusader Tordo, and specializes in Thunder Magic, with their special weapon the Thor Hammer Tome. Tiltyu couldn't use it, since she didn't have a major Tordo Blood within her (she has minor); Reptor had the tome at the time of Sigurd's campaign and gave it to her elder brother, Blume. Other than him, Tiltyu also has a sibling named Ethnia. After surviving the Battle of Barhara, she and her daughter Tinny lose contact with Tiltyu's son Artur and go to live with Blume, where Tiltyu withstands for years the abuse of her sister-in-law Hilda to protect little Tinny. She ultimately dies of illness and depression, an ironic fate considering that she used to be a cheerful, headstrong girl. She is predestined with Claude, Azel and Levin.

Brigid

Brigid (ブリギッド Burigiddo?) is Aideen's twin sister and a direct descendant of Ulir. She was abducted by pirates at the age of five and raised as the daughter of their captain in Orgahil, north of Agustria. She grew up into a kind yet tough sniper; some of her companions were jealous of her and betrayed her, which makes her join Claude and Tiltyu and later pledge herself to Sigurd's cause. She bears the thief Patty and the bowfighter Faval if paired. She is predestined with Jamuka, Midayle and Alec.

Rana (ラナ Rana?) is Aideen's daughter. She grows up with Celice in Tilnanogue and fights alongside him from the start.

Phee

Phee (フィー Fii?) is Fury's daughter. She travels with Arthur after hearing Celice's tale and in hopes to meet her brother and father (canonnically Levin in Thracia 776). She is angry at her father for causing Fury to die waiting and goes as far as deciding not to speak with him anymore when reunited.

Julia

Julia (ユリア Yuria?) is the daughter of Alvis and Diadora, the twin sister of Julius, and younger half sister of Celice. During the second half of the game, Julia is shown to have love for Celice, even though they're half-siblings. She eventually inherits Narga, the most powerful light magic of the game. She is either given the tome Resire or Aura, by Celice who picked it up for her. In the last chapter of the game, Julia is abducted by Manfloy, and gets brainwashed. Celice rescues her.

Johan

Johan (ヨハン Yohan?) is Danan's middle son, making him Lex's nephew. He is a narcisst with a deep sense of justice. He is obsessed with Lakche, and recruiting him means that the player cannot recruit Johalvier.

Johalva

Johalva (ヨハルヴァ?) is Johan's brother. Though not narcisst, he tends to use rough language. Like his brother, he is obsessed with Lakche.

Patty

Patty (パティ Patei?) is Briggid's daughter. Growing up in an orphanage, she resorts to stealing to feed the children. She is later caught by Shanan when stealing the holy sword Balmunk, and develops a crush on him.

He is defending his home of Lenster under Blume's attack when Celice comes to help him. Leaf is also the main character of Fire Emblem: Thracia 776.

Nanna

Nanna (ナンナ Nanna?) is Lachesis's daughter. Raised by Finn, she helps Leaf in defending Lenster. Though the player can pair both of them with other characters, Nanna is Leaf's canonical love interest.

Teeny

Teeny (ティニー Teinii?) is Tiltyu's timid daughter. Also abused by Hilda, which causes her to resent the woman. Despite Blume's care towards her, she still considers him one of the causes of Tiltyu's death and did not hold back in defeating him later. She is also shown to be friendly with Blume's daughter Ishtar.

Aless

Aless (アレス Aresu?) is Eltoshan's son, born during Sigurd's tale. He grows up hating Sigurd, thinking that he killed Eltoshan, until Celice reveals that their fathers were actually friends. Still suspicious on Celice's revelation, he later realizes the truth when Nanna supports Celice's statement and becomes a trustful ally. He is fond of the dancer Leen and wields Eltoshan's Mistoltin.

Leen

Leen (リーン Liin?) is Sylvia's daughter. She is rescued by Aless shortly after he joins Celice. Sylvia left her when she was little in an orphanage before vanishing.

Faval

Faval (ファバル Fabaru?) is Briggid's son. He works as a mercenary, hired by Blume until Patty convinces him. Inherits Briggid's Ichival. He disapproves Patty's thieving methods.

Sety

Sety (セティ Setei?) is Fury's son. He maintains the status of hero and protects the people from the Empire, while searching for his father. Just like Phee, he is angry with his father (if his father is Levin), but is slightly more tolerant than his sister. He is named after the founder of Silesia.

Corpul

Altenna

Altenna (アルテナ Arutena?) is Cuan and Ethlin's daughter, and Leaf's older sister. She inherits the Gae Bolg. Raised by Trabant, she later realizes the truth of his father and defects to Celice's army thanks to the help of Trabant's son Alion. She is in love with Alion, and thus cannot be paired with any of the playable characters.

Substitute characters

Most of the regular playable characters in Celice's Tale are the children of playable characters from Sigurd's Tale. If the mother of one of those characters was never paired with anyone during the first half of the game, that character will not be born, and a substitute character with similar (but generally reduced) abilities will appear in their place.

Radney

Radney (ラドネイ Radonei?) is Lakche's substitute character. She is only playable if the player didn't pair Ayra with anyone in the first part of the game. If she is playable, Johan and Johalva are obsessed with her instead of Lakche, so that the player can still recruit one of the brothers.

Roddlevan

Roddlevan (ロドルバン Rodoruban?) is Skasaher's substitute character and Radney's twin brother. He is only playable if the player didn't pair Ayra with anyone in the first part of the game.

Major non-playable characters

Eltoshan (Eltshan)

Eltoshan (エルトシャン Erutoshan?) is the King of Nodion and descendant of Hezul. As a direct descendant of Hezul, he is able to use the legendary Demon Sword, Mistoltin. He attended the Royal Academy of Barhara with Sigurd and Cuan. He also is a friend of Beowulf. He has a younger sister named Lachesis. His wife Grahnye was from Lenster. In Chapter 1, he backs up Sigurd after either Genoa or Marpha is conquered, as Elliot attempts to take Evans Castle. In chapter 3, if Lachesis talks to him, he will give her the Earth sword, then return to Sivall and get killed.

Alvis

Alvis (アルヴィス Aruvisu?) is the Emperor of the Grandbellian Empire. He is the son of Victor, the womanizing duke of Velthomer, and Cigyun of Yied, and paternal half-brother of Azel. He is of Fala descent on the paternal side and of Loput descent on the maternal side. At the end of Chapter 5, Sigurd and his army fall into a fatal trap set by Alvis. Some of Sigurd's army survived the trap, but it is unclear who the survivors are. Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 confirms that Lachesis, Brigid, Levin and some others survived the trap. Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu also confirms that Aideen is still alive at the time of Chapter 6 (which picks up 17 years after Chapter 5), and that she now works in the Tilnanogue abbey in the Kingdom of Isaac.

In the second half of the game, Alvis ends up realizing that he was being used by Manfloy as a pawn, as his son Julius becomes the incarnation of Loputousu and spreads a reign of terror throughout Jugdral despite Alvis' own objections. Alvis perishes in Celice's hands in revenge of Sigurd.

Manfloy

He is the archbishop of the Loput Sect, who strives to revive the Dark Lord Loputousu, and is also the mastermind behind the Holy War and the Isaacian-Grandbellian War. He kidnaps and brainwashes Diadora in Chapter 3 and sends her for her half-brother Alvis to find so he can marry her. Manfloy manipulates Alvis and offers the dark tome of Loputousu to Yurius later on in the game.

In the final chapter, Manfloy brainwashes Yuria just like he did to Diadora, but Celice eventually saves her when he kills Manfloy for the one being responsible for his parents' sorrows. He was also responsible for the assassination of Ayra's father King Mananan, with the use of Reptor the duke of Freege.

Trabant

The King of Thracia. He is shown to be ruthless and uncaring, due to the upbringing of Thracia's harsh nature. Though he comes off as a despicable man, his biggest wish is to make his people prosper and happy, regardless whether his actions will bring him to hell. He raises Altenna so he can utilize the Gae Bolg; it is also insinuated that he cares for her because of his unrequited love for Ethlin, Altenna's mother, who married Cuan. After passing the Kingdom of Thracia and Gungnir to Alion, his son, he goes to his final battle and dies there.

Blume

Leptor's eldest son. He is shown to be a ruthless ruler. Despite ignoring Hilda's torture of his sister Tiltyu, he is one of the people that cares for Teeny. He is defeated for good in Manster, after handing over the Thor Hammer tome to his daughter Ishtar.

Hilda

Blume's wife. She is a power hungry, masochistic woman who takes pleasure in committing evil things, including torturing both Tiltyu and Teeny and supporting Julius' child hunt propaganda. She pressures Ishtar to marry Julius, to give her a higher position in the Empire by granting her a link with the Emperor.

Julius

Julius (ユリウス Yuriusu?) is the son of Alvis and Diadora, the twin brother of Julia, and the younger half brother of Celice. He serves as the primary antagonist and final boss of the second half of the game, due to Manfloy manipulating him into becoming possessed by his ancestor Loputousu. Julius implements the brutal Child Hunt, a major theme of both the second half of Seisen no Keifu and Thracia 776. He is in love with Ishtar, who seems to be the only person he cares about, and becomes jealous of any other man who pays attention to her.

Ishtar

Ishtar (イシュタル Ishutaru?) is the eldest daughter of Blume and Hilda. Despite her mother's abuse towards Teeny, Ishtar cares for her and becomes one of her best friends. She is in love with Julius, though she is against his child hunt propaganda. She makes her last stand in Barhara, fighting for her love and perishes.
